ATEN CL5716
16-Port PS/2-USB VGA Single Rail LCD KVM Switch
The ATEN CL5716 is a space-saving, professional-grade Single-Rail LCD KVM switch designed to control up to 16 computers from one integrated console, all within a compact 1U rack-mountable chassis. At the heart of its design is a slide-away console featuring a high-resolution LED-backlit LCD display (available in 17″, 17.3″ Full HD, or 19″), paired with an illuminated keyboard and touchpad. This setup allows administrators to manage critical systems efficiently without the need for separate keyboards, mice, or monitors, making the CL5716 an ideal solution for server rooms, control centers, or IT closets where space is at a premium.
The CL5716 supports both PS/2 and USB interface types for connectivity with attached computers, automatically detecting the console’s connection type for seamless switching and boot-up stability. One of its standout features is built-in USB peripheral sharing via a console-mounted USB-A port, which allows each connected system to access a shared device—such as a flash drive or external mouse—without constant cable swapping. The LCD monitor conveniently tilts up to about 115°, enabling comfortable viewing angles and reducing glare during extended use.
Beyond its basic console capabilities, the CL5716 offers powerful scalability. Through daisy-chaining (using compatible KVM switches), administrators can link up to 31 additional units and centrally control as many as 512 computers from one console. This flexibility is further supported by hot-pluggable ports, allowing users to add or remove computers without shutting down the system, and automatic station detection, which intelligently identifies each unit’s position in a chain—eliminating manual DIP switch adjustments.
User convenience and security are at the forefront of the CL5716’s design. Switching between computers can be accomplished via front-panel buttons, keyboard hotkeys, or the on-screen display (OSD) menu, which is available in multiple languages. Additional functions include auto-scan mode for continuous monitoring, broadcast mode for sending commands to multiple systems simultaneously, and a volume-enabled beeper for alert signals, all controllable via OSD or hotkeys. Meanwhile, two-tiered user authentication—with one administrator and four user accounts—ensures only authorized personnel can access critical systems. For environments that demand secure, shared access control, a fingerprint identification module is available as an option.
Built to deliver reliable everyday performance, the CL5716 supports high-quality VGA video output up to 1280 × 1024 at 75 Hz—or 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz on Full HD models—thanks to DDC2B support. Keyboard and mouse emulation features support both PS/2 and USB modes, which simplifies system management during boot sequences. This console is also compatible with multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux, macOS, Sun, and various UNIX variants.
Maintenance and setup are streamlined through its modular design: the console module can slide out for quick repairs, and firmware updates can be applied in bulk across chained units through a single console connection. Only a standard flip-up console and cables are needed—no software installation is required—making deployment and upgrades straightforward.
In summary, the ATEN CL5716 16‑Port LCD KVM Switch offers a powerful blend of space efficiency, multi-computer control, and advanced security in a sleek 1U form factor. Its slide-away console, adaptable interface support, wide daisy-chain scalability, and enhanced user controls make it an excellent choice for professional IT or AV environments that require centralized console management without compromising on flexibility or performance.
